Senior Temporary Works Design Engineer
IKM Consulting are currently looking for a Senior Temporary Works Design Engineer to join our growing team. Our expanding project portfolio means you’ll play a critical role in a range of exciting projects, largely within the process, manufacturing & energy industries. The role will not be limited to temporary works, with also involve extensive involvement in the design and assessment of process related structures, primarily in a high hazard environment.
The successful candidate will:
- Act as technical lead and knowledge expert for temporary works within the civil and structural engineering teams.
- Broaden their skill/knowledge base through involvement in the design of permanent works in high hazard and industrial environments.

- Be able to take ownership of project delivery regarding:
- Client liaison & Key Account Management
- Commercial management
- Budgets & Project Management
- Understand the development needs of team members and inspire them to perform at their best.

THE CANDIDATE
We’re looking for a candidate with the following experience and qualifications:
- BEng/MEng in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Chartered (CEng) Civil / Structural Engineer (or close to attaining Chartership) with a proven track record of delivering projects.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a civil/structural design environment.
- Extensive experience in the design of temporary works structures, including experience in several of the following areas.
- Above and below ground propping systems.
- Sheet piling.
- Façade retention systems.
- Scaffold design.
- Crane/piling platforms.
- Temporary foundations.
- Lifting assessments.
- Needling schemes.
- Design of demolition works, including sequencing, risk assessment and pre-weakening.
- Traditional/proprietary formwork.
- Vibration assessments.
- Design of temporary roads.
- Implementation of the CAT3 checking process.
- Experience in the use of engineering design software such as Tedds and Mathcad.
- Experience in the management of temporary works design and installation in accordance with BS5975.
- Experience in the use of British and European standards.
- Comprehensive experience in application of UK Health and Safety legislation, in particular the CDM regulations.
- Excellent communication skills liaising with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience in all stages of the design and construction process from concept to detailed design.
- Experience in design risk management and mitigation.
- Ability to meet internal quality standards and to value engineer designs.
- Ability to liaise with colleagues providing supporting services to projects such as geotechnical, environmental and specialist buildings engineering.
- Full UK driving licence and the ability to attend client sites, as required.
The following knowledge/experience would be beneficial:
- Experience in the use of structural analysis software, including SAP2000, STAAD Pro or similar.
- Experience in the design and assessment of structures subject to traffic loading, including experience in the implementation of the DMRB standards.
- Experience in the design of permanent works.
- Experience in the implementation of client standards.
- Experience in undertaking structural inspections, including the assessment of critically damaged structures.
- Experience in working within in regulated or high hazard industrial environments.
- Experience in the development of project proposals and input to tender submissions.
- Ability to market services and develop business opportunities with new and existing clients, supported by Business Development & Marketing.
